--An award winning architect, fine art photographer, and fused glass artist, living, working and playing in the panhandle of North Florida.
While I trained at university in the fields of fine art photography, printmaking and architecture, --photography remains my first love, and life-long passion.
The concept of Distant Light Studio evolved from using the Sun as a primary light source in photographic works, to include the reflection of the sunlight from distant stars and planets in night photography. Astro-landscape photography is a relatively new term used to describe the long exposure techniques of photographing earthly foregrounds against the back drop of the cosmos. These images can be found in the gallery titled: "Distant Lights | Everyday Sights".
More recently, I've begun to experiment with photographing light waves outside of the human visible spectrum, --by using a camera that only sees a narrow band wavelength in the infrared portion of the light spectrum. Specifically this light band is at 720 nanometers wavelength. This opens up a whole new world of interpretation of everyday scenes and subjects. In its most basic form, infrared exposures are recorded in varying tones of reds, not visible to naked eye. Through establishing a more normative "white balance" process, these tones are translated into a range of "false color". This notion of 'false color' is strictly a means to make visible information beyond that which the human eye can normally capture and interpret. At times, these translations are left to become the final image, while other times I have chosen to translate the image into monochromatic tonal scale, often featuring a warm sepia overtone. Regardless, the infrared exposures remove full-spectrum color from the image, enhancing the natural tone and texture of the subject. The resulting images can be found in the gallery: "In a Different Light".
As a professional of many disciplines, the integrity and quality of my work is of primary importance. I have teamed with the best, tried and tested labs, to ensure professional results. My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
