After seeing reports of the water having been drawn out of the northern Gulf of Mexico by Hurricane Ian, I hurried down to Mashes Sands Beach in the north Gulf Panhandle of Florida, to see for myself. The beach was crowded with curiousity seekers stepping out onto the seabed. I walked a half-mile offshore shortly after a predicted high tide, and began photographing the advancing sunset over the now exposed bottom of the open Gulf. A once in a lifetime sight.
