Driftwood Beach in Jekyll Island, Georgia, affectionately known as the "Boneyard" for its remnant sea-worn trees dotting the beach. Hauntingly beautiful reminders of ever-changing sea patterns, and its impact on land and life.
Starry night photos are best when printed on metallic papers, chromaluxe metal prints, acrylic, or canvas.
February North American Milky Way shots are not the low-hanging fruit of night sky season. With visibility starting at 3:30AM or so, low temperatures and wind chill at or below freezing often accompany the best skies for photographing. Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island is an easy-access location, a short hike from car park, or even accommodations. The heavily populated neighboring St Simon’s Island & Lighthouse provides intermittent light for the foreground. This particular night drew a small crowd of dedicated photographers set up at one of the more striking of the sea-washed trees. The obliging low-tide of that near new moon hour enabled nice reflection for portrait composition.
